A group on readers who had originally connected through Instagram successfully put their books down for a few hours and met up for a pretty fantastic event!
On December 15th, 2018 we hosted our first ever Houston Book Swap and the turn out was amazing! It was a chilly and windy morning at Throughgood Coffee, so everyone was buying endless coffee just to hold and keep their hands warm. Everyone brought at least three books and we ended up all going home with five, so thank you all who brought extras and let us come home with more books than we came with!
We started off with the mystery book drawing, which was my favorite part. We drew everyone's name from a bag and took turns going and picking a wrapped book from the table. I was more straight-forward with my description of the genre and theme, while others must be writers because I was drooling over their short blurbs. I ended up picking a book narrated by death because I couldn't get over the description and it ended up being The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, which was on my Christmas list, so I was thrilled.
After we gave everyone a few minutes to explore the main table full of books, so the selection process would be a bit quicker for those who are more indecisive (me!), we started to draw names again and randomly select a book each turn until there was just two or three left that were then donated to my Little Free Library.
Thank you to everyone who came out and made this event a success!
We will be trying to do these a few times a year, so if you are interested please follow my Instagram and stay turned because I will post about it many times in my story! If we don't end up doing another in the Spring we will at least be doing another one in July. A Christmas in July Book Swap event!
