What are your favorite genres to read?
I love darker psychological thrillers and mysteries. I just recently finished Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter and that is a perfect representation of everything I want in a book. I also enjoy some romance indie authors like Colleen Hoover and Tarryn Fisher, who capture broken, real people that don’t always end happily ever after. Admitting all this has made me realize I might have a problem. Am I evil, because who doesn’t like happily ever afters?...apparently me.

It would be a far shorter list of genres I don’t read, I will say that much! Fantasy is my principal favorite genre, as I am an avid fan of every subgenre it encompasses: High fantasy, low fantasy, urban fantasy, grimdark fantasy, fairy tales--even a genre I sort of compiled myself: “fantasypunk”, a genre that includes elements of sci-fi (like modern tech) but with fantasy-world explanations, and sometimes even magic-based explanations for how they work. Speaking of “punk”... I didn’t realize just how many “punk” genres there were until I started reading a seires of “Goes Punk” anthologies--and I love them all! Cyberpunk and steampunk are the most common, but there is also Teslapunk, dieselpunk, candlepunk, clockpunk, mythpunk, nanopunk, and even fairypunk! I’ve been getting more into the realm of “paranormal/supernatural investigator” fiction, like the works of Jim Butcher or E. A. Copen. Nothing like a good ghost hunt or a titanic battle among the gods to really get the imagination going and the heart pumping!
Then of course you can’t go wrong with a good, classic mystery like Agatha Christie or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I’ve found some truly awesome crime thrillers in my time, like those by Baldacci--but you get the idea. I just love good books, pure and simple!

I have quite a varied reading taste and will give most genres a try but, my favourites are thrillers, and basically anything that comes under the mystery, crime, or suspense categories.
I also love romance. Give me a good, solid chick-lit and I’m a happy girl.

I’ll read any genre, but I tend to gravitate toward YA, thrillers, and any type of fantasy. Of course I love anything with a diverse set of characters (that’s the whole purpose of my blog!) and there will always be a special place in my heart for any type of story featuring LGBTQ characters.

I’ll read almost anything as long as the individual book is interesting but speculative fiction (fantasy, science fiction, and all their related subgenres) rank highest with romance ranking lowest. YA is fun but I’m finding myself drawn more to NA recently (YA being young adult, for 13-18 year olds, NA being new adult, for 17-35 year olds) because I’m bored of the high school themes but enjoy the quicker pacing and lighter feel.
